Dark Beauty 2016

Dark Beauty

“In the old age black was not counted fair,
Or if it were, it bore not beauty’s name;
But now is black beauty’s successive heir,”
Sonnet 127 by William Shakespeare

We are really excited because our Arts Council funded project has started!

Inspired by Shakespeare’s beautiful Dark Lady’ series of sonnets, during the project .workshop artists will encourage participants to use creative writing, performance poetry and digital technologies, to create and showcase work that explores ideas of beauty and identity in the 21st century.

We are working across South yorkshire and hosting a series of workshops during Black History Month and the Off The Shelf Festival.  Look out for further information soon!

The project is a Destinations Arts and Sheffield Hallam University partnership.  The Dark Beauty project is supported by Arts Council England using public funding.
